I went with Fortin because of what he did last year in the playoffs, and also for the training regimine his dad has him under. He carried Franklin to the
regional finals, and nearly further. I think the only other player in the conversation is White from Stevenson, but I give the slight edge to Fortin.

haha fortin? pats99? no doubt you're from franklin.
austin white has it hands down. Him and anthony baskin are the two best players in the KLAA, but austin already has 2 big ten offers and will most likely be a rivals 100 candidate in his senior year. Fortin is good but remember he played well in 2 games last year and when he played a good stevenson team he was held to under 50 yards when franklin had a good offensive line. With only 1 returning offensive lineman, Fortin will not have as much help up front, so i dont think he will be the best in the KLAA. On the other hand, even in stevenson's 1 loss against dakota white scored 3 tds and had over 100 all purpose yards. That was when he was a sophomore. Look for austin white to be the best michigan running back for the class of 10 and most likely a rivals 100 player his senior year. |

White and Fortin are definately the top 2, in my estimation. But, do not discount Vushaj. By the end of the year, he will be in the conversation as one of the
top players in that league.

Wade Stahl??
He is a very good running back and is a senior, so I'm sure he worked his butt off to finish up a strong year. I don't think he gets enough attention because of White. by the way, the offense line from Franklin will be strong, trust me I know!! Dante Fortin |

I voted for Austin White. It seems like a pretty easy choice, IMO.
However, I think you overlooked Kyle Podvin from Milford. He's a DB/slot receiver and will be a 3-year starter. Last year he was the KVC special teams' player of the year. He is easily better than Blake Heiman, and I think better than the two Novi kids. I think he's a better player than Cagle, Stewart, and Paxson as well. It may sound biased, but I think Podvin will be the MVP of the KLAA West. ![]()

I havent casted my vote yet as i dont think its fair because i havent seen alot of the wlaa kids.
I feel like you did an injustice to milford, for not placing kyle podvin up there who was an amazing slot last year and can only get better. and to lakeland, for only putting the qb up there when the star of the playoffs last year was lee lopez who had five sacks in one game. also we saw the emergence of junior jacob rhode who accumulated 7 touchdowns in 5 games, as a secondstring. i will most likely vote other, but looking at this topic makes me feel very strong for the klaa because of the development of powers and talented young people. from vushaj to cagle, from white to heiman, the stahls, and then all of the stars that will show themself this year after the graduation of a very talented 2008 class. its gunna be a fun year

The old saying, "A jack of all trades, a master of none" doesn't apply to Kyle Podvin. A three-year starter for Milford High School, he has proven to be a master of pretty much every aspect of football. As a cornerback, Podvin often shadows the opposition's best receiver. That is unless the Mavericks are in their prevent defense. Then he moves to safety as the last line of defense. As a kick returner, Podvin was his conference's special teams player of the year in 2007. And that's before you to get to offense, where he is averaging more than 150 yards per game in total offense this season as a tailback, slot receiver and taking direct snaps from center in some formations. Oh, and he has completed a 40-yard pass and thrown several devastating blocks for teammates on screen passes. "Kyle is a great high school football player," Milford coach Jeff Hill said. "A lot of what we do as a team is to try to take advantage of his unique and varied skills." Podvin is 5-feet-10, 175 pounds, so there are certainly bigger players. He is one of the state's top hurdlers, finishing seventh in the Division 1 track meet in the 300-meter hurdles last spring. So he has excellent speed, but there are faster backs. Colleges have inquired about Podvin, but he has received no football scholarship offers yet, so there are more highly-recruited players. But is there a better all-around high school player in Oakland County? Podvin is only out of the game for a few plays each Friday night. "And when he is, I can tell he is not too happy about it," Hill said. "I get him right back out there as soon as possible. He is the only player on our team that starts both ways. We're just a much better team when he is on the field." Podvin is unselfish.
Milford made the playoffs during Podvin's sophomore year, but struggled last season. All five of the Mavericks' defeats were by six points or less. The Mavericks are 2-1 -- including impressive victories over Novi and South Lyon -- heading into tonight's game against Pinckney. "We lost a lot of close games at the end last season, and have been very determined to finish better this season," Podvin said. Podvin has been playing football since he was 5 years old and signed up for the Milford Mustangs' youth program. "Rick Sharpe really helped me with the Mustangs, my family and coaches have been really supportive and I have a great offensive line," Podvin said. "I thank them. They deserve the credit." Podvin wants to play college football and sees himself as a defensive back. He is confident that will happen, but just doesn't know where. Hill feels the same way.
Podvin enjoys track, but considers football his primary sport. He says his goals are strictly team-oriented, and that this season is all about getting Milford back into the state playoffs and doing damage once there. "We really put a lot of time in on our strength and conditioning program getting ready for this season," Podvin said. "It's going to pay off." Hill said Podvin will be there for his team at the crucial moments. He won't talk a big game. Just play one. "Kyle doesn't say much, but he is one of our captains because he does such a great job of leading by example," Hill said. "He is Mr. Do It All for our team." And as such, one of the most versatile -- if not the most versatile -- football players in Oakland County. ![]() |
